Goa Police personnel deployed on duty for the upcoming BRICS summit were on Tuesday sensitised about the level of security cover expected from them in the backdrop of the surgical strikes by the Indian army on terrorist launchpads across the Line of Control.
Around 1,000 personnel, from the constables to the Superintendents of Police from all arms of the Goa Police, were present at the joint briefing where Deputy Inspector General of Police Vimal Anand Gupta stressed on the importance of offering fail-proof security at the BRICS summit.
DIG Gupta informed that the security preparedness has necessitated multi-level and multi-agency coordination.
“Goa Police is coordinating with all relevant security agencies in order to preempt all attempts to sabotage the upcoming international event on the backdrop of the surgical strikes across LOC. Teams from the Intelligence Bureau and National Security Guard have visited the state. IB teams showed slides of their list of known terror operatives. All contingencies have been deliberated upon and drills have been rehearsed accordingly,” DIG Gupta stated.
The need for correctness of uniforms, alertness, knowledge about duty allotted and security protocols was stressed upon. The police personnel were also sensitized to the threat perceptions based on latest inputs.
Referring to the overall security strategy, DIG Gupta said, “With heads of State visiting Goa, the international meet will have a different scale of security whereby fail-proof security has to be offered with an eye on the set national and international protocols,” he said.
Uniformed policemen will be deployed along the routes and venues at the BRICS summit, except inside the perimeter of the residential venues, which will be guarded by staff in plain clothes.
In addition to this, there will be strategic deployments all over the State in order to reinforce the security cover.
A nuclear team of Goa Police has already received month-long training in Delhi. Apart from being trained in the routine international security protocol, they have also been imparted specific training on the frisking protocols and other diplomatic security arrangements. This team is presently in the process of training the next line of personnel.
