A British tourist created a ruckus at an HDFC ATM at Agonda after she attempted to uproot the machine on the pretext that it had swallowed her ATM card.
Alert residents, who noticed the woman hysterically attempting to break open the ATM machine informed the police who arrived at the scene immediately only to find the woman hysterically shouting that she did not even have penny on her and as she had to leave on Sunday night, she needed her ATM card which the machine had swallowed.
When the police tried to pacify her while making attempts to contact the bank officials, the lady was seen hurling insults at the onlookers who had alerted the police.
In the meantime, sensing more trouble, the police called for a woman police official to rein in the foreign tourist.
Someone from the public brought the matter to the notice of the concerned branch manager, who not only drove to the branch, but also called in his technicians.
Upon inspection, the technicians found the ATM card chest completely empty (there was no ATM Card lodged inside).
When the bank manager viewed the CCTV footage, it was clearly evident that the woman had carried out a normal transaction, with the ATM machine dispensing back her ATM card, but no cash. The woman is seen collecting her card and putting it inside her bag.
Interestingly, while the bank officials in the presence of policemen were still in discussion over the fake distress call, the alleged victim slipped out and disappeared from the scene.
On realizing the woman had disappeared, the police team fanned out in every direction only to find her enjoying a swim in the sea on Agonda beach.
With the police standing guard on shore, and with no other way out, the woman finally approached them to ask them why they were following her and whether she has committed any crime.After much investigation, it was reportedly learnt that the young woman was suffering from memory loss, and habitually complained of missing belongings and other issues.
