Swachh Village Abhiyan is an initiative of the Directorate of Panachayats to spread awareness among the panchayats about the importance of cleanliness and greenery.
The Panchayat Minister made the announcement during a meeting of panch members, sarpanchas, Block Development Officers and officers of the DoP convened at Panaji.
DoP Sandhya Kamat, Dy Directors Sudhir Kerkar and Ajay Gaude, CEO (North) Shri Dashrath Redkar, President North Goa Zilla Parishad Ankita Navelkar and president South ZP Navnath Naik were among those present at the event.
Speaking at the gathering, Godinho stated, “Panchayats are the most important grassroots bodies of self-governance. A panchayat needs to be stable. Good governance is defeated if a panchayat changes sarpanch twice and thrice in a year. This restricts the development of your own village.”
Godinho also disclosed his plan to move about the state in panchayat areas on May 13 to observe the implementation of the drive. “I will decide on three panchayats in North and two in the South to make surprise visits. The BDOs will be responsible for the drive,” he said.
DoP Sandhya Kamat informed that the drive will be organised by the directorate and village panchayats not only as a means to further a positive attitude towards maintenance of cleanliness but also to push for a higher degree of involvement and interaction among the villagers and their elected representatives to foster stability.
