The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Tuesday kickstarted its political activities in the State from Vasco with a focus to contest assembly elections and to discuss its participation in the civic polls.

Mormugao social worker Liby Mendonca and Sayed Vajeed Ali were also inducted into the party in the presence of BSP Goa State Coordinator Gopinath and BSP Karnataka State General Secretary Dastageer Mulla at a party function on the occasion of Republic Day.

Speaking to reporters, Gopinath said the party believed in upliftment of the downtrodden and noted that many people from the lower strata of society did not get the much-needed benefits.

“Hence, the party felt it important to set up its base in Goa. The party will contest the assembly elections and will also discuss the possible participation at the civic polls,” said Gopinath.

"The party’s ideology is social justice, social equality and self-respect. At present, we want to make an impact to enter assembly elections and contest all 40 seats to have at least four legislators from the BSP in the Goa Assembly. We will take a call and discuss further on other political strategies.”

Dastageer Mulla said the party would take up several activities in the State.

“All calls on assembly elections, including discussions on alliances, etc., would be taken after getting approval from the BSP National President Bahen Mayawatiji,” he said.

Newly inducted members Liby Mendonca and Sayed Vajeed Ali also assured to work for the people through the BSP.
