Budget has ignored minorities, says Mulla

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday levelled the allegation that Goa government's Budget 2016-17 failed to benefit the minority communities in the State by not making required provisions for a Haj House, Minority Finance Development Corporation, Minority Commission and education in Urdu.
Addressing the media at Congress House, GPCC spokesperson and it's State Minority chairperson Urfan Mulla stated, "There are no benefits for minorities in the budget. As against this, the erstwhile Congress government under Digambar Kamat had taken several steps towards betterment of minorities."
He said that no provisions have been made for the Minority Finance Development Corporation while the previous government had earmarked Rs 5 crore for the purpose.
It was also stressed that no further steps have been taken to allot 2,000 to 5,000 sqmts of land identified by Kamat-led government in Verna for setting up of a Haj House for Goa.
"In four years of being in power, this government has made no decision on Minority Commission. In fact, it has made several systematic attempts at closing down the 23 Urdu-medium government schools by delaying appointment of teachers," Mulla alleged.
He said that the appointments of teachers come in October, but by then the students enroll in other schools.
Congress also announced 10-member minority department under the chairmanship of Mulla. The appointments were communicated by Khurshid Ahmad Saiyad, chairman of Minority department of All India Congress Committee.
