In a big boost to the fishing community in Mormugao taluka, the government has proposed appropriate relief to traditional fishing communities who face considerable risk during the monsoon months when the sea is rough and are unable to venture into the sea for fishing, drastically affecting their livelihood.
The government has also provided subsidies to fishermen for the purchase of outboard motors, replacement of onboard kerosene engines, construction and maintenance of landing jetties, a corpus fund to fishermen and enhancing the provision of VAT-based subsidies.
Taking keen initiative to rehabilitate all habitants living in various slums, the government initially proposes to undertake the locality at Zuarinagar and has provided funds under the Goa Rehabilitation Board.
The Government also intends to complete construction work of the Cottage Hospital at Chicalim. Assuring that the Mopa airport would not jeopardise operations at Dabolim, Parrikar said Dabolim airport would continue and “would be upgraded from time to time to cope up with traffic growth, and Airports Authority of India would take up construction of a parallel taxi way immediately during this year to avoid traffic congestion.” The government will also take up work on the Grade Separator at Dabolim.
Welcoming the Budget, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said Parrikar has made a provision to allot funds to complete the ongoing developmental works and those in the pipeline. “I am happy with the Budget, as my developmental projects which are underway will not be hampered as the Chief Minister has assured to allot funds to complete all the developmental works,” said Almeida, while speaking to The Goan.
“Other developmental works in the pipeline like the Vasco fish market and construction of ultra-modern KTC bus stand will also be completed, as necessary funds will be allotted to it,” added Almeida. tgn
