Even as students are yet to settle in their new academic year, the Government Primary School at Ambeshi, Pali-Bicholim is posing a serious threat to them as the school building is invaded by bugs.
The education department has come under the scanner for neglecting the serious issues from last couple of years and this has left parents worried and anxious about the safety and health of their wards in the school that falls in the constituency
of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
According to the parents, the bugs have invaded the school from last two years. Most of these have been found on the roof in the last two months, they said.
They said several complaints have been made to higher officials in the education department, but no action has come forth.
Some of the parents claim since the last eight days students are being sent home because of the situation. “Everyday in the morning teachers along with other staff are kept busy cleaning the classrooms of bugs. Sometimes they have collected even two to two to three buckets of these black-coloured bugs,” they said.
The agitated parents have asked the education department to seriously look into the matter or else they would stop sending their wards to the school.
An angry Vishwaraj Sawant said from the last one year several verbal complaints along with the written complaints from the concerned teacher have been made to senior officials but nothing has been done so far. “Also, it is becoming extremely difficult for children to consume food from their tiffins.”
Parents have raised serious concern about the possibility of the spread of disease and have stopped sending their children to the school.
