Burglars decamped with cash of Rs 3.30 lakh from a cloth store in Vasco on Sunday night.
The burglars gained entry into the shop by breaking the iron grills of the sliding window and decamped with cash that was in the drawers.
Speaking to The Goan, shop owner, Ilyas Sayani, said they had closed the shop early after working for only half a day on Sunday and since the banks were closed for three days, the cash was kept in the shop.
“When I opened the shop with the help of my worker on Monday morning, the worker noticed the cash drawers open and brought it to my notice. As it is a family business, I immediately brought the matter to the notice of my other family members and later lodged a complaint with the Vasco Police,” informed Sayani.
Sayani said the burglars broke the grills of the sliding window at the loft. “After entering the shop, the burglars kept the phone off the hook and with the aid of a heavy scissors broke open the cash drawers and decamped with the cash,” added Sayani.
When asked whether the shop is under CCTV surveillanc , Sayani and the police replied in the negative.
Another family member, Amin Sayani, said the burglars decamped with cash of Rs 3.30 lakh.
Vasco Police suspect that the culprits used the scaffolding that is being erected to repair the Vasco clock tower to get to the loft level. Dog squad and fingerprint experts were also pressed into service.
Police said they have registered an offence against unknown persons under Sections 454, 457, 380 of IPC and PSI Y M Madgaonkar is investigating the case.
