Burglars strike 3 automobile showrooms in Verna

Decamp with Rs 3 lakh cash from 2 showrooms

VASCO
Burglars on Thursday night broke into three vehicle showrooms in Verna and stole cash of around Rs 3 lakh from two showrooms.

According to information, the burglars stole cash of Rs 2.73 lakh from Goa Motors Hyundai car showroom and Rs 60,000 from Coastal Honda car showroom based at Verna. Sources added that the thieves also struck the JCB showroom at Verna but failed to get any cash from the showroom.

When contacted, Prashant Joshi, the owner of Goa Motors Hyundai car Showroom, said the burglary looked to be the work of gang mostly from outside Goa. Joshi demanded that while it was difficult to recover cash, the Police must investigate the cases and arrest the culprits immediately.

“The incident happened on the night of July 26 and we realised only the next morning. We don’t understand how they managed to enter the showroom despite the presence of the security at all the showrooms. There are no marks of footprints in the showroom despite being a rainy weather and we are not sure from where they came. Our showroom cameras are being upgraded to night vision and they may have taken advantage of the situation and probably entered through a sliding window. They entered the mezzanine floor and took the portable safe which had money of the payments made in the late hours of the office,” said Joshi.

“The safe is heavy and they have got the safe to the basement and opened it and stole the money of around Rs 2.73 lakh in the safe. We have given all the documents and evidence to the police backed by the payments and similar thefts have taken in two other showrooms in the vicinity.”

“As per CCTV footages, the thieves had sharp weapons and the thieves were fully masked making it difficult to identify. We are not sure if they threatened the security and entered the showrooms. The police have come with forensic experts and investigation is going on but we are of the opinion that the culprits must be caught,” said Joshi.

The sources in Verna police said two separate cases had been registered against unknown culprits.
