Burglars strike gold in Nuvem

MARGAO

Burglars looted gold and cash all amounting to Rs 5.30 lakh from a bungalow in Nuvem’s densely populated Kirbhat locality last night.

The miscreants effected entry into the bungalow by removing the window grills. While the occupants of the house were all asleep in one of the bedrooms, the miscreants managed to lay their hands on the gold ornament, watches and cash, including 3000 US dollars from another bedroom. The incident came to light at around 7 am on Wednesday when the occupants woke up only to find their house burgled.

Owner of the house Kevin Fernandes told The Goan that he along with his wife and son were sleeping in one bedroom, while the burglars targeted the second room. “My wife got up in the morning to prepare breakfast for my son. When she went to the second bedroom, she found the cupboards open. She immediately got back to find out whether I had kept the cupboards open before going to bed,” Kevin said.

When Kevin went to the bedroom to find out what had happened, he was shocked to find the cupboards open and the entire bedroom ransacked. And, his worst fears came true when the valuables stored in the bedroom, including gold ornaments and currency, went missing.

“The miscreants have lifted away the gold ornaments, including necklaces, bangles, pairs of earrings, valued around Rs three lakh. They have also taken away cash of Rs 2.30 lakh, including 3000 US Dollars,” he said.

The Maina-Curtorim police swung into action after receiving a complaint of the burglary. The police sniffer dog and finger print experts were pressed into service to assist in the investigations, but in vain.
