Beleaguered farmers, whose agricultural field were being devastated with mud filling to raise an earthen embankment, heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday after local Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas announced that the PWD, National Highway will stop the land filling through the fields for a month till the fields are harvested.
The Benaulim MLA descended at Tolleabandh on Thursday morning to convey the news to the farmers that their fields will be saved from destruction till they are harvested.
Venzy later told the media that the PWD, NH officials have agreed that there would not be any more dumping of mud along the stretch where the agricultural fields are under cultivation. “I have got an assurance from the government that the cultivated fields will not be destroyed. I had taken up the issue on the floor of the House on Wednesday pointing out the plight of the beleaguered farmers, who ran the risks of their fields being devastated by the land filling activity,” the MLA said.
