The Institute of Chartered Accountants panel on Thursday called upon Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho to demand the implementation of a double accounting system in local governing bodies with the help chartered accountants to bring about a system and transparency.
Chandra Shekhar Chitale of ICAI said if the local bodies were to implement a world recognised system, there would be more financial control over the system.
Pradeep Kakodkar of ICAI said housing tax collection, assets, and other details could be monitored through the new accounting system of balance sheet and double entry system.
He said the local bodies could spend money judiciously and avail grants and loan facilities.
Godinho said the State government is keen in implementing such a system and while the file is already moved, the only question is about the implementation of this system.
He said a joint meeting of GIPARD, Directorate of Panchayats and charted accountants would be convened shortly to facilitate the implementation of this system.
“All other states, including Maharashtra, are practicing such a system and we have to be on par with national standards,” said Godinho.
