The Goa Cabinet on Monday approved a series of key decisions, including the scrapping of all government vehicles that are more than 15 years old, expenditure for roofing works across government buildings and amendments to the Chief Minister’s Self-Employment Scheme.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that old government vehicles will be handed over directly to the State’s lone Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) at Marcaim, which was set up for recycling purposes.
The vehicles will be scrapped at a fixed cost.
He also said the State government will approach the Centre to seek incentives for the scrapping initiative.
On the infrastructure front, the Cabinet cleared expenditure for roofing works in all government buildings.
“All the roofs of the government buildings will be taken up. New PWD Minister Digambar Kamat is also following up the matter,” Sawant told reporters.
The Cabinet further approved amendments to the Chief Minister’s Self-Employment Scheme to give a push to entrepreneurship, particularly among students.
The upper age limit for applicants has been raised from 45 to 50 years, while higher loan amounts have also been permitted.
“The scheme has been changed with a focus on creating an entrepreneurial fervour among students. The Director of Industries will act as the nodal agency, and ADEAI will be the trading partner,” Sawant said.
