MARGAO
Delay in the completion of the North main trunk sewerage line has been attributed to the strata of soil along the South Goa district hospital-Old market circle.
When the PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral was questioned over the delay in completing the North main trunk line between the KTC bus stand and the Old market circle, he attributed the delay to the strata of the soil along the stretch.
He, however, said the PWD is committed to accord top priority to the commissioning of the sewerage project in Margao and Navelim.
“Given the nature of the soil along the stretch, the PWD had started steel piling since normal piling could not be executed. However, when the steel piling was underway, we found rock underneath. The difference in the soil strata has delayed the completion of the north main trunk line,” he said.
The PWD Minister said sewerage works dragging for the last 8-9 years have started after he took over the PWD office. “Some of the contractors have now given in writing that they are not interested in executing the works because of the rates,” he said.
