Cabral says PWD depts will have to be integrated

MARGAO
Underlining the need to integrate PWD departments, including roads, water supply and sewerage, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral said he has issued directions to the sewerage department to expedite the completion of the North Main sewerage line and release connections to the households in order to stop the flow of sewage in the river Sal.

Speaking to The Goan on the sidelines of a programme at the Hari Mandir, Margao, the PWD Minister said he has accorded top priority to the sewerage connection, saying permissions have been granted to the PWD, Sewerage, to go for road cutting to lay the line or release connections.

“I am aware that newly hot-mixed roads will have to be dug up to lay the sewerage line. This is happening for want of integration of the PWD departments, including the roads, sewerage and water supply. Once the integration takes place, the work of the respective departments will take place in a systematic manner”, he said.

Saying he has laid his focus on the laying of the sewerage line in Margao to stop the flow of sewage water in the river Sal, Cabral said the work will remain pending if the contractors are not allowed to carry out the work.

“Some of these works have been pending since 2012-13. And, if the contractor leaves the work, there would be no one around to complete the work”, he said.
