BELAGAVI
Demanding the resumption of Vasco-Belagavi passenger train and the development of Curchorem Railway Station, Goa’s Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has also asked the Railways to bear 100 per cent cost of the railway overbridge near Sanvordem.
He was speaking during the first meeting of the Zonal Rail Users Consultation Committee (ZRUCC) on South Western Railway (SWR) at the SWR headquarters in Huballi.
The first ZRUCC meeting for the current year was chaired by SWR General Manager Sanjeev Kishore and Cabral was present along with 23 members of the committee and senior SWR officials.
Given a growing demand from people of both states, Cabral said the Vasco-Belagavi passenger should be resumed soon.
“Apart from convenience to commuters, the train would also help in transportation of vegetables and other produce from Belagavi,” he said.
While appreciating the development, safety and infrastructure facilities for travellers, Cabral also asked railway authorities to take up the development of Curchorem Railway Station.
He also demanded that the Railways bear 100 per cent cost of the railway overbridge near Sanvordem against the proposed 50-50 cost bearing by the Railways and the Government of Goa.
SWR GM Sanjeev Kishore assured the members of earnest efforts and commitment to address the public concerns.
“SWR is on a mission of ‘Infrastructure Capacity Enhancement’. Our Railway team is committed to address every issue with concern. We have deep rooted commitment to infrastructure development, which has tremendous economic and developmental implications,” he ascertained.
The members were also briefed that special efforts are being made to introduce the Vande Bharath Express service from Hubballi.
SWR Additional General Manager P K Mishra, Principal Chief Engineer P Ravi Kumar and other senior railway officials were present at the meeting.
