The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has extended the tenure of the three-member Cabinet Advisory Committee by another month to April 30, while also increasing their power to take decisions on financial expenditure up to Rs 10 crore.
The power of individual ministers to clear files has also been hiked from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore.
In a memorandum issued on Thursday, two days before his previous order expires, the Chief Secretary conveyed the decision of the Chief Minister.
“The Chief Minister is pleased to direct that the arrangements made for the transaction of business of the government vide the office memorandum dated 08/03/2018 in his absence on medical grounds shall be continued for a further period w.e.f. 01.04.2018 to 30/04/2018 with the modification that the financial powers of the Cabinet Advisory Committee have been enhanced from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore and that of the individual minister from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore,” the memorandum reads.
Consequently, the Finance Department also issued its own memorandum mandating that all expenditure sanctions between Rs 2 crore to Rs 10 crore will have to be placed before the Cabinet Advisory Committee until April 30 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
A similar instruction has been sent out making it clear that the minister concerned will have to clear all expenditure sanctions up to Rs 2 crore.
The extension of the Cabinet Advisory Committee is on expected lines, while its duration could indicate that the Chief Minister will remain out of the country for at least another whole month as he completes his treatment for his pancreatic ailment.
