Former bureaucrat and politician Elvis Gomes on Friday made serious allegations against the Comptroller and Auditer general (CAG) saying it’s setup in Goa has colluded with the Goa government and IPSCDL on audits of the ‘smart city’ expenditure.
“Audits of at least four years have been carried out by the CAG but nothing is being put out in the public domain,” Gomes said even as he made the charge there was collusion between CAG, Goa government and the IPSCDL.
Gomes said irregularities in the functioning of IPSCDL are aplenty, including violations of set procedures and even payments being made to contractors via credit card swiping. “There are plenty of ‘memos’ about these things at the CAG office in Goa. It is all being suppressed,” Gomes said.
The former bureaucrat-turned-politician was speaking at an event held at the Mandovi river promenade by Green Goa Brigade to dissect the ongoing Smart City work.
Meanwhile, several citizens raised issues of dust pollution, haphazard digging of roads which claimed the lives of four citizens in mishaps, including the recent death of St Estevam social worker and politician Emidio Monteiro after a mishap at Ribandar.
Monteiro’s family members including his son Anthony, were at the event -- Walk the Talk -- organised by Green Goa Brigade.
Others at the event included several prominent green activists including ex-councillor Patricia Pinto, Sabina Martins and Avertino Miranda among others.
