Fault in the main 33 KV line supplying power from Tivim to Nagoa sub-station led to major power outage for over 10 hours during the day in Calangute and parts of Arpora-Nagao and Parra since Friday morning.
After struggling for major part of the day to locate the fault, Ramdas Salelkar, Assistant Engineer, Calangute informed that two cables of the main power line consisting of three major cables were severely damaged and will need replacement.
“The cables will come from Margao and will take at least day to fix,” Salelkar said late in the evening.
The development indicated that residents of Calangute and surrounding areas will have to brace up for a night with power outages.
“The department will try to supply power through the single working cable for now but it will be limited and restricted to the areas being serviced by respective cables,” Salelkar said.
The entire Nagoa sub-station was without power since Friday morning affecting the villages of Calangute, Arpora and Parra.
Power supply to the coastal belt was disrupted from 6.30 am on Friday leaving most locals in the area fuming.
The humid weather made things worse for the residents of the coastal belt.
Despite best efforts, the department failed to locate the fault till 4.30 pm.
The areas of Sauntavaddo, Cobravaddo, Porbavaddo, Agarwaddo and parts of Umtavaddo and Naikavaddo were worst affected due to the power outage.
“The main 33 KV line supplying power from Tivim-Mapusa to Nagao sub-station developed a fault from 6.30 am. It’s a long line. We began patrolling the line since early morning but were yet to locate the fault,” Salelkar had earlier said.
The AE informed that the department was unable to find the fault in spite of the best effort of the staff on field.
“We have requested the services of experts/machine in our effort to try and locate the fault,” the AE said.
He, however, said it would be difficult to tell when power will be restored as after locating the fault it needed to be fixed.
