After being severely criticised for failing to curb crime in the coastal village, Calangute Police on Wednesday arrested two matka bookies and cash of Rs 1.15 lakh was seized in a matka raid in Naika-vaddo, Calangute.
The two alleged accused Rajesh Arondekar (37) and Prathamesh Sawant (27) are residents of Livrament-vaddo, Sangolda.
The duo was arrested while accepting matka bets in an open place at Naika-vaddo, Calangute late Tuesday night and cash totaling around Rs 1.15 lakh and other gambling articles were seized from their possession. Calangute Police have been in the eye of the storm after locals and politicians blamed the police force for failing to control the menace of touts and pimps along the coast.
