In a significant political development, Calangute Deputy Sarpanch Geeta Parab is set to face a no-confidence motion on February 20 after nine panchayat members moved a resolution against her. The motion, which was tabled last week, signals growing dissent within the local governing body of the popular coastal village.
Parab has been serving as the deputy sarpanch of Calangute for nearly two and a half years. However, recent developments indicate that a majority of the panchayat members have lost confidence in her leadership, leading to the formal initiation of the no-confidence process.
According to sources, there was no prior verbal or written understanding regarding the duration of her tenure when she assumed office. This ambiguity, coupled with other undisclosed political differences, may have contributed to the decision by the majority of the panchayat members to seek her removal.
The no-confidence motion will be deliberated and voted upon during the meeting scheduled for February 20.
Parab has not publicly commented on the move to dethrone her by majority of the panchayat members.
