Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira has pledged that starting next season, the streets of Calangute will be free of touts.
Sequeira announced that the panchayat, in collaboration with the police, will take stringent action against illegal businesses operating in the popular beach village. “The Calangute Police Inspector has assured to register cases against the touts and arrest them. We have arranged a Tempo traveller which will be used to pick up these touts. In the next season, there will be no touts in Calangute,” Sequeira asserted.
Addressing the issue of local guesthouses being rented out to outsiders, Sequeira noted, “80 percent of our guesthouses are given on rent. We have to blame our own people for this. I appeal to our locals not to give the guesthouses on rent but to run the business on your own.”
Sequeira’s commitment to clean up the village aims to enhance the overall experience for tourists and uphold the integrity of Calangute as a premier destination.
