In a stroke of luck Calangute Police managed to arrest an accused and solve two different cases registered at the Police Station on Thursday.
The accused, Azeez Asif (27) of Hubli-Karnataka, is now in the custody of Calangute Police.
According to police, complainant, Pramod Govekar from Anjuna, walked into the police station on Wednesday evening and informed about the theft of his Honda Activa scooter which was parked near the La Calypso Hotel, Baga on February 22.
Similarly, another complainant, Hilda Palha at around 9 pm on Wednesday informed that the accused, Azeez Asif, committed theft of her handbag containing gold ornaments of five finger rings, one earring worth Rs 30,000 and cash of Rs 7,000 at around 3 pm near a resort in Calangute.
As luck would have it, the two-wheeler owner noticed a man with his scooter in Anjuna on Thursday morning and with the help of public, apprehended the accused and handed him over to the police.
During the interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had stolen the handbag from a woman in Calangute.
Police have recovered part of the gold property that was stolen by the accused.
An offence under Section 379 IPC has been registered against the accused in both the theft cases.
Calangute Police is investigating the case.
