Women’s rights activist Auda Viegas has called for fast tracking of rape and human trafficking cases, especially in cases related to Children, even as she demanded the dismissal from service of the government servant involved in the Benaulimminor’s gang rape case.
Addressing the media, Auda said that fast tracking of rape case is required as the victims have to get over the trauma and move on life, saying children have to study and women have to rebuild their lives.”
She has called for surveillance and patrolling for safety of women and children on beaches, saying the CSR should be used for illumination of the beaches and to put other safety measures in place.
Saying that a women police inspector is the need of the hour in view of the increasing number of cases against women, Auda has demanded that the women police officer should be immediately posted at the district headquarters since certain sections of the law need to be investigated only by a women police inspector.
“We need more vehicles at the police station for quick response in emergencies. The women and child protection need to be upgraded to a full-fledged police station o that they assist the women survivors of violence”, she said, adding that suo moto cognizance need to be taken by the police of anyone disclosing the identity of the victim.
Underling the need for a fresh sensitization of stakeholders, including police, doctors, legal fraternity, Auda said the doctors at South Goa are doing their best, but the health department need to conduct training and sensitization of the health care workers and post additional doctors if required to conduct medical examination for survivors of sexual assault. “This is important in the interest of the victim”, she said.
She added: “The government servant involved in the Benaulim beach gang rap be dismissed as he is also a driver for the women staff of the department and a potential danger”.
