Expressing concern over the spike in Covid cases, State BJP President Sadanand Tanavade said there was need to enforce tougher restrictions in the State and the government was expected to enforce certain decisions in this regard in a day or two.
He also said 100 percent lockdown was definitely not an option due to the impact it will have on the economic activity but suggested some curbs on outside people entering Goa.
“We cannot have 100 percent lockdown but we can definitely act tough on enforcing the laws and bringing curbs in organising functions. I had a discussion with the chief minister and the health minister and some new restrictions are expected to be implemented within two days,” Tanavade said.
The State BJP chief was interacting with the media at the sidelines of a function in Mapusa.
Continuing, Tanavade said there should be a check on people from other States who are entering into Goa and the government was aware of the situation.
“I feel some restriction should be there on tourists entering the State. If we ban everything then the economy will suffer. But the government should take strict action. I think the government is in the process of drawing an action plan,” he said.
He admitted that Covid cases have started rising exponentially and there was a need to take steps to bring the situation under control.
“Maximum people have to get vaccinated and the BJP is working hard to convince people to take the Covid jabs. Other political parties have also appealed to people,” he said.
