Sports Minister Govind Gaude on Friday said that natural resources like water bodies can be put to maximum use for issues like water scarcity.
Gaude was in Vasco as a part of ‘Prashasan Tumchya Dari’ programme, which was attended by people from different parts of the taluka.
Three Mormugao MLAs - Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and Vasco Krishna Salkar, elected representatives from Mormugao Municipal Council and different panchayats, government officials from the PWD, transport, police and other departments, were also present at the meet.
Issues pertaining to water shortage, dust pollution, installation of CCTV cameras and frequency of buses were raised during the programme.
"There are water supply issues affecting people and we have to find out if we have natural resources like water bodies available in Mormugao taluka. In case there are water bodies available, they can be put to use to tackle water scarcity issues,” said Gaude.
“In my constituency, I got the WRD and Water Supply department to put these natural resources into use, to take water where government water may not reach in areas with acute water scarcity. We have not only implemented the initiative, but we have also succeeded in tackling water supply issues," said Gaude.
Speaking on the Kala Bhavan at Sancoale being given to the International Law College, Gaude said it was not a permanent arrangement.
"The international Law College administrative block is already under construction and the Kala Bhavan Sancoale is given only a temporary basis. Once the Law College is constructed, it will be shifted to the new complex and Kala Bhavan will be available for art lovers. I am also an artiste and I also feel like performing there and hence, I can understand the feelings of various artists who seem to be upset with Kala Bhavan given to International Law college," said Gaude.
Gaude also added that the Ravindra Bhavan at Baina would be fully functional once the new air-conditioning plant is installed.
‘New sports complex at Tanya ground’
VASCO:
Sports Minister Govind Gaude on Friday said the most important topic that came up for discussion during the ‘Prashasan Tumchya Dari’ in Vasco was the sports complex planned at the Tanya Ground in Vasco.
"We will have a new sports city complex in Mormugao and we have already appointed a consultant for this project. We are focussing on the National Games and the procedure for estimates and tendering will happen as well,” said Gaude.
"As far as the Chicalim ground is concerned, we have already even finalised the dates of the inauguration, but the pavilion is not constructed as yet. I have even released payment to the contractor who has given an assurance that he will complete the works within 45 days and once this is done, we will have a grand inauguration of the Chicalim ground," said Gaude.
