Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar on Tuesday appealed to all opposition parties to unite and join hands to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Patakar was speaking to reporters after attending a Cortalim Congress Block Committee meeting attended by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, MLAs Alton D’Costa, Carlos Ferreira and other leaders on Tuesday evening.
“When it comes to regional politics and especially assembly elections, I agree that regional parties play a vital role, but it is the question of the country which has to be saved when it comes to Lok Sabha elections,” said Patkar.
“In Goa for the Lok Sabha elections, there will be a fight between national parties of Congress and BJP. Regional and other parties whose vote share may be around 8 percent must come together in case they want to throw the BJP out.”
“If the goal is to defeat the BJP then we just be united because there is no point in dividing ourselves. We can later continue as separate parties during the 2027 assembly elections and I appeal to all like-minded regional and other parties to unite and defeat the BJP,” said Patkar.
Patkar said the Congress had begun conducting block committee meetings along with booth coordinators across all constituencies to prepare for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
