Calls to Goans to brace up for protests at residences of MLAs not supporting resolution against linear projects

MARGAO
Parish Priest of Rachol Church, Fr Eremito Rebello has given a call to the people of Goa to brace up to protest at the residences of the MLAs and demand their resignation if they do not support the resolution against making Goa a coal hub.

Expressing his unhappiness that leaders, who were part of the anti-coal protests in the past, have now preferred to remain silent on the issue, Fr Eremito said it appears that these leaders and MLAs have been given lollipops by the government in lieu of their support.

“The resolution against the three linear projects should have been passed in the House on Friday. The opposition was united, but those who were part of the protests in the past remained silent,” he told the media.

Referring to the statement made by Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral that the government will not allow more coal to enter Goa that what is being brought for the moment, Fr Eremito expressed his concern that the double tracking will be used only to transport coal in the future.

“The representatives of the people are not interested in the welfare of the people, but are working for the corporates. They have become the voice of the corporates than of the people who had elected them. People will not need MLAs who do not raise their voice in the Assembly,” he said.

Giving a call to the people of Goa to remain united, Fr Eremito said the people should be prepared for a battle to peacefully assemble at the residences of the MLAs to demand their resignation if they don’t support the anti-coal agitation. “We should be prepared to go to the residences of the MLAs demanding their resignation,” he asserted.
