MARGAO: Claiming that the BJP has undertaken a lot of work for the ST community, Camilo Baretto, along with former councillor Livramento Barretto and some 70 ST community members, joined the BJP.

Camilo, Livramento join Fatorda BJP

At a news conference in Margao BJP office, Camilo informed that he had called a meet of members of the ST community where the latter urged him to join the BJP. Citing schemes such as Griha Aadhar, Laadli Laxmi formulated by the State BJP government, Camilo said he and his community members feel that schemes such as Laadli Laxmi should continue.

Prior to his joining the BJP, Camilo said he held a meet with former Fatorda BJP MLA Damu Naik, who promised to secure jobs for the ST community. Camilo said that his decision to join the BJP was also to help the ST community.

Camilo pegged the ST voting population in Fatorda constituency at 6500 and said, “Victory of a candidate in Fatorda is decided by the ST community. This time, they will remain firmly behind the BJP.”

Damu Naik, Narendra Sawaiker, Arun Faldesai and Livramento Barretto were also present.

Quepem local gets lifer for murder MARGAO: The Principal District Sessions Judge, Desmond D'Costa sentenced one Nazir Mehboob Pattenawar, a resident of Sirvoi-Quepem, to life imprisonment, holding him guilty of murdering one Shanul Sharif (38), a resident of Kepem and a native of Belgaum The case of murder dates back to May 5, 2015, when Nazir murdered Shanul with a 'danda.'
