The Camurlim gram sabha on Sunday has resolved to ask the Water Resources Department (WRD) officials to ensure that the village khazans and rivulets find mention on the village Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP).
At the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Basil Fernandes, members discussed the recent visit of WRD officials to take note of the suggestions made by the villagers to the CZMP.
Sarpanch Basil pointed out that though the panchayat had in the past recommended that the village khazans and rivulets are all shown on the CZMP, he regretted that the suggestions, however, found no mention.
“The members made it clear that the WRD should make a proper distinction between khazans and rivulets. They just cannot show the khazans as water bodies. Members have demanded that the WRD officials rectify the mistakes and make the necessary corrections”, he said.
The gram sabha also discussed the issue of garbage dumping by outsiders along the roadside in the village. The Sarpanch explained that the panchayat has set in place measures to handle the waste generated in the village, adding that the one found dumped on the roadside comes from outside the village.
“We have decided to take extra measures to get the CCTV cameras focused on the blackspots so that the miscreants are kept at bay,” he said.
To a question, the Sarpanch said the panchayat did not discuss the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill at the Sunday gram sabha since the special gram sabha held on Independence Day had already rejected the Bill. He said the panchayat has already forwarded the resolutions adopted at the special gram sabha to the Governor and Chief Minister for action in the matter.
