Mishap claims life of 48-year-old

A 48-year-old resident of Polem-Canacona succumbed to injuries he had sustained in an accident at Maxem.
According to Canacona police, Santosh Raya Naik was proceeding on his scooter (GA-09-J-0290) from Poinguinim towards Loliem, when it hit the oncoming tempo (GA-02-U-7774) at the Maxem curve on Monday.
Naik, who suffered severe injuries to his legs, was shifted to CHC Chaudi, and was subsequently transferred to Hospicio, where he breathed his last.
AAP activists strongly objected to the delay in arrival of 108 ambulance at the accident spot. They criticised the non-functioning of the life ventilator in the 108 ambulance and non-operation of X-ray unit at CHC.
Some angry activists who visited the hospital told media persons that the ambulance was delayed, and upon questioning the reason for its delay, EMRI staff informed that the ambulance had some mechanical flaws and had to be manually pushed ambulance to get it started. As as the ventilator was not operational, the victim was not provided any life support till he reached CHC.
AAP member Sandesh Telekar took strong objection to the callous response for such accident-related incidents, while pointing out that the nemesis of such poorly-managed health services in Canacona had led to the demise of one more life.
“The government is yet to show its seriousness towards human life, and people are just dying because of its negligence,” Telekar said.
Telekar threatened that AAP members will resort to 'sit in' agitation and hunger strike said if the government does not not come up with any concrete plan to enhance medical facilities at the CHC.
