Canacona BDO office found virtually empty

CANACONA

Amid allegations that the Canacona BDO staff parties every Wednesday, media persons went to the Canacona BDO office and found virtually no staff, including the BDO officer, till 2.45 pm on Wednesday.

BDO Anil Naik was the first one to enter the office at 2.45 pm, but apart from two staffers, no other staff came till the media left the office past 3 pm.

There have been allegations that the BDO office staff party at a secluded restaurant away from the town, and return to office only by 5 pm every Wednesday.

To check if the BDO staff were in office, a team of media persons went to the Canacona BDO Office situated at the Dy Collector’s Complex at Chaudi at about 2.15 pm.

The media persons found most of the desks empty, with eight staff members not present and the Block Development Officer himself was also not in his cabin.

When Canacona BDO Anil Naik entered the complex at 2.45 pm, he was asked about the absence of his staff.

“I had gone for a meeting in Margao, and after arriving in the office at about 2 pm went out to lunch. I have now return to office and I am unaware of the whereabouts of my staff,” said Naik, while adding that the staff would be asked to report to the office immediately.

When media persons informed him of complains that BDO staff are seen enjoying a lunch party in a restaurant every Wednesday and returning only by 5 pm to sign the register and leave office shortly to end the day, Naik denied any knowledge of his entire staff partying every Wednesday.

“Don’t know about today as I was in Margao for a meeting, but every day my staff goes out for lunch at about 1.30 pm every day and return to office by 2 pm,” said Naik.

The BDO, however, maintained that as an officer, he has control over the staff and he would seek and explanation form his staff for remaining absent during office hours..

Incidentally, no other staff came back till 3 pm and media persons then left the office.

Gaondongrim Sarpanch Dhillon Dessai also happened to visit the BDO office while media persons were present and was seen entering the BDO cabin after he failed to meet any officers in the office.
