CANACONA
Days after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar intervened and resolved the leadership issue at the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC), Deputy Chairperson Samita Dhuri, who is tipped to be next CMC chairperson, submitted her resignation on Tuesday.
Dhuri submitted her resignation letter as Deputy Chairperson to Chief Officer Raju R Dessai.
Dhuri, who was among those councillors to have sought the advice of Parrikar in Panaji, is tipped to lead the council for a three-month period, after CMC chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar has been asked to relinquish the post by January-end.
The Rajbag-Tarir councillor is the daughter of former CMC Chairperson Ratnakar Dhuri and is one of the youngest councillors of CMC to have been elected as Deputy Chairperson in a draw of lots, after she and Palolem Councillor Dayanand Pagui were tied 5-5 during voting. Chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar had also won under similar circumstances.
Ex-Chairperson and Ponsulem councilor Shamsunder Dessai is now tipped to occupy the post of Deputy Chairperson, when Dhuri gets elevated as chairperson..
Almost all 10-councillors have now pledged their support to BJP and have decided to rotate the chairperson’s post, which is reserved for women, among all four women councillors in the CMC.
