Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar has sought the early implementation of maintenance dredging and upgradation of the Talpona Fishing Jetty with Fisheries Minister Nilkant Halarnkar.
During a meeting held with Halarnkar, Tawadkar discussed key development issues regarding the Talpona Jetty and the dredging works.
The points discussed included the maintenance dredging at the channel area of the Talpona Jetty for the smooth flow of traffic under PMMSY at an estimated cost of Rs 5.39 crore, and the upgradation of the Talpona Fishing Jetty into an eco-friendly, modern integrated fish landing facility at an approximate estimated cost of Rs 17 crore.
According to sources at the Speaker’s office, the fisheries minister assured that the process would be initiated soon, with all necessary steps taken to complete the works at the earliest. Those present at the meeting included Director of Fisheries Dr Shamila Monteiro, Deputy Director Velip and WAPCOS Consultant Rajwansingh. Speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Panchayat Ghat at Poinguinim, Tawadkar said work on the Talpona Jetty would be undertaken and measures have been taken to stop the erosion of the Talpona shore.
