Claiming that there are 26 bogus voters registered in Merces, the St Cruz Congress Block has demanded the deletion of these voters.

A petition in this regard was filed by Block President John Nazareth with the Chief Electoral Officer at Altinho-Panaji on Monday.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the petition to the CEO’s office, Nazareth informed that the matter had already been reported by Block Joint Secretary Edwin Vaz to the Joint Mamlatdar-cum-Returning Officer in November last year.

“But still no action is forthcoming in deleting the bogus voters,” Nazareth said.

Divulging further, Nazareth stated that only two voters reside in the house where the voters are registered.

“There are 28 voters registered, of which 15 have cast their votes during the Lok Sabha elections. However, only two voters are residing in the house,” Nazareth pointed out and demanded the intervention of the CEO in getting the bogus voters deleted.

Meanwhile, Nazareth said that the St Cruz Congress Block will now conduct an extensive survey to ascertain the bogus voters who are registered in the St Cruz constituency.

“The incidence of bogus voters in Merces could only be the tip of the iceberg, and there could be many such instances where bogus voters are registered. We also appeal to the public to bring to our notice if they find any such manipulation in the electoral rolls,” he urged.
