Joint teams to patrol beaches and enforce safety norms; restrictions on firecrackers

Canacona readies multi-agency safety plan for New Year

The meeting, chaired by SDM/Dy Collector Prataprao Gaonkar and SDPO/DySP Nilesh Rane, focused on crowd management and fire safety for New Year.

CANACONA
Several arrangements and precautionary measures were decided for the upcoming New Year celebrations on the beaches of Canacona, including crowd management, parking plans, fire safety measures, illumination and power supply, medical and emergency arrangements.

The meeting, which was chaired by SDM/Dy Collector Prataprao Gaonkar and SDPO/DySP Nilesh Rane, initially discussed crowd management, and the Canacona police was instructed to make adequate police arrangements at Palolem junction, Patnem and Agonda beach on the eve of New Year.

Canacona PI Harish Raut Desai informed that the security arrangement plan has been prepared and will be executed on time.

The police was also directed to ensure that no firecrackers are sold at the beach area and to warn shopkeepers not to sell firecrackers without obtaining permissions from authorities.

The Coastal Police Station was asked to conduct patrolling along the coast to identify unknown boats/sea-vessels  around the beaches.

The excise inspector was also directed to monitor any mega supply or sale of liquor along the coast, while the Canacona Municipal Council chief officer has been instructed to make awareness about cleaning on the entire stretch of beach.

TRAFFIC, SAFETY

When SDM enquired about the traffic management plan, the Canacona Traffic Cell ASI Ramakant Velip informed that their Office has made adequate arrangements of traffic management during the occasion.

He further informed that Parking arrangements are made at Sai Darbar, Devabag, Agonda junction. The SDM also asked to identify more places/ locations for parking vehicles in coordination with Taluka Sports Officer Canacona.

The SDM asked the Fire Station Officer to position a minimum of 2 fire tenders at Palolem and at Agonda near the Agonda Police Outpost. SDPO Nilesh Rane suggested to make arrangement in such a way to enable keep response to exigencies for fire safety measures.

The Shack Owner Association was made responsible to conduct an awareness drive along the entire stretch at Palolem, Patnem, Agonda beach to ensure that no Chinese sky flying lanterns are used at beaches during the event, so that New Year celebrations are held in a safe manner.

Drishti Life Savers were directed to ensure that no tourists shall venture into the sea for swimming or any water sports activities or water cruising beyond the permissible time limits and also to ensure that sufficient manpower is deployed at the drowning-prone areas.

POWER, HEALTH

Assistant Engineer (Electricity) Canacona in coordination with the Police Inspector Canacona and Police Inspector Traffic Cell Canacona have been asked to make necessary illumination at all the entry point, parking areas, near Cleopatra and the beach sites to provide proper illumination and power supply and to conduct inspection on safety and proper electrical power supply at the beaches.

Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares was instructed to maintain the Community Health Centre, Canacona functional for immediate response to any medical emergency.

Further, Gaonkar instructed the Mamlatdar of Canacona to constitute two teams to conduct a joint site inspection along with officials of the electricity dept, fire station, excise office, police to identify the sale of firecrackers at beaches, proper electrical supply etc.

The meeting was also attended by officials/representatives including the Canacona Mamlatdar Gajesh Shirodkar, Joint Mamlatdar Gayatri Naik Dessai, Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares, Dr Diwakar Velip (Ayurvedic Physician, CHC), Govind Bhat (AE Elect Dpt) Swapnil Desai (AE D.D.W), Pankaj Naik Gaonkar (Vice-President All Goa Shack Owners association), Rupesh Gaonkar (Taluka Sports Officer), and Pravesh Gaonkar, (Excise, Canacona).
