According to Canacona Police, parents of two students complained that the headmaster had assaulted their children, causing injuries during school hours.
The incident was reported to have taken place on October 1, but parents learnt about it on Tuesday, and a police complaint was filed on Wednesday. Based on two complaints, Canacona Police registered an FIR against the headmaster under Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and stated that further investigation is in progress.
Medical examinations of both the students was conducted on Wednesday, informed a police source.
One of the investigation officers, PSI Prashal Dessai informed that since the complaint pertains to assault on minors, the assistance of an NGO was sought, while the investigation will begin on Thursday and accordingly, further action as per law will be initiated.
In the police complaint, both the parents alleged that their children were beaten with slaps and kicks on their neck, faces, causing bruises and scars on their bodies, and trauma, alleging indiscipline by the children.
According to one complainant, the headmaster has been habitual in assaulting school children. Parents alleged that the headmaster drags the children near a cowshed behind the school and assaults them, to avoid getting his acts captured on school CCTV.
“What if my son had collapsed with the hard slap? My son as usual had gone to school on October 1, but when he returned home I felt he was not in his usual self and had a swollen lip and was virtually under fear.” “I tried to find the reason, but finding my son tensed and depressed, I left him alone without pressing further. Later, I noticed that he did not attend tuition that day.”
“On Monday morning, my son complained of pain and on persistent questioning revealed that his school headmaster dragged him behind the school and assaulted with slaps on his neck, head and mouth. My son was compelled to kneel down in front of headmaster’s office for two hours,” stated the complainant.
“My son till date is afraid and is hesitating to go to school on account of harassment,” he added.
