In fact, the government appears leaving nothing for chance to ensure the guests enjoy the road journey right from the Dabolim airport to Salcete.
But the approach road to the Comba subway, used mostly by the student community, however, is craving for attention. The approach roads right at the subway’s entry and exit points pose danger to the parents and the students alike since the last several days. The huge craters on the road on both sides of the subway pose constant danger to the students, but there’s still no sign of the PWD and other authorities stepping in till date to carry out the
repair work.
Motorists say that the PWD may not require huge funds to restore the condition of the road as the repair work can be carried out with a couple of rubble stones. “The PWD will not require crores of rupees to restore the approach road on either side of the subway. A couple of rubble stones should suffice the repair of road, but the PWD seems to have run out of ideas and putting the lives of the citizens to risk,” remarked Anthony Fernandes.
What’s interesting to note is the fact that while Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the city, the pitiable condition of the approach road to the subway seems
to have also escaped his
attention.
The Goan further understands that South Goa Collector Swapnil Naik had recently visited an educational institution in the vicinity, but the repair work has still not commenced till date.
Vidya Vikas Mandal PRO Prof Manoj Hede lamented that the authorities have turned a blind eye to the danger posed to motorists at the subway mouth. “The disaster management authority is expected to look after the subway in respect of flooding,” he said, and hoped the disaster management takes note of the damaged road.
That’s not all. The rains have finally subsided, but water accumulation is the order of the day in the subway. In fact, the PWD authorities have been groping in the dark over the source of water finding its way into the subway till date.
