PONDA
His family members were forced to shift him to GMC Hospital on Tuesday, after the doctors at the private hospital reported asked him to pay for tests to be conducted.
Taking serious note of the incident, Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar said he would bring the matter to the notice of government.
Sources informed that the patient from Curti was admitted to the private hospital empanelled for the DDSSY scheme, for treatment of kidney stone.
He was initially promised that the medical treatment would be covered under the DDSSY scheme, but doctors later told family members that medical tests and medicines would not be covered under
the scheme. “They told the family members that only operation would be free and that, they would have to pay the other bills, including room charges,” sources said.
The patient is presently undergoing treatment
in GMC.
Stating that such conduct by the hospital was unacceptable, Mamledar said: “How could the doctors claim that medical tests are excluded from the scheme? All the medical expenses should be covered under the insurance scheme.”
“I will definitely bring this incident to the notice of the government. Patient should get full insurance as they have paid for it,” Mamledar told The Goan.
