CANACONA
In a dramatic incident, State Registrar Ashutosh Apte conducted a raid at the Canacona Sub Registrar’s Office and the Sub Registrar Premanand Desai was allegedly seen fleeing from the office on the pretext of ‘collecting tablets’.
According to sources, Apte raided the Canacona Sub Registrar’s at the fag-end of working hours on Wednesday. While he was still examining files in the office, Sub Registrar Premanand Desai was reportedly seen running out of the office and down the stairs from the first floor of the Deputy Collectorate complex, before leaving on a motorcycle.
He was reportedly heard mentioning on his way that he forgot to take tablets and was rushing to bring them.
Meanwhile, Apte reportedly seized some files and after realising the sudden disappearance of the sub registrar, notified the deputy collector.
Canacona police were also alerted and a police team reportedly went to the sub registrar’s residence, but could not trace him anywhere.
It is reliably learnt that there were some complaints against the sub registrar and he had been warned in the past. Desai was even issued a memo in this connection.
Efforts to contact the sub registrar for his comments in the matter failed, as calls to him went unanswered.
