Canacona police arrested a 21-year-old youth, Prasik Mohan Dessai, 21, from Chaudi in Canacona for criminal intimidation and circulating nude pictures and objectionable videos of a girl on Whatsapp.
The youth allegedly circulated an objectionable video and photos of the girl on Whatsapp. He was placed under arrest late Saturday night on receipt of a complaint from the victim girl. He was produced before JMFC Court, Canacona, on Sunday, which remanded him to five days police custody.
Prasik was arrested under section 323, 376, 504, 506, 509 of IPC and 67A of Information and Technology Act.
Police said the complainant (name withheld) girl had initially refused to be friends with the youth, but he started criminally intimidating her and finally succeeded in becoming friendly to her in August-September 2016.
They said over a period of time, he took her to different places in Canacona in his Safari car and shot videos while kissing and even forced her to have oral sex.
Thereafter, they narrated, the accused began to force the victim girl to post nude and objectionable photographs of her on Whatsapp.
He then began to continuously demand more photos from the girl, after which she refused. At this point, the accused began threatening the girl of circulating her nude pictures to others.
When the girl firmly refused to oblige to his weary demands, he abused her. The victim even changed her mobile number to avoid him, but somehow the youth managed to get her number and again began to criminally intimidate her.
Once he even visited her college and assaulted her in front of her friends. Incidentally, many people including youngsters, began to receive and view videos and nude pictures of the victim girl and the matter came to the notice of the Canacona police.
Sources informed The Goan that though the police took the boy in their custody by taking cognizance of objectionable videos and nude pictures on social media on Saturday itself, they were unable to officially act in the absence of any complaint from the girl.
Sources said finally on intervention of an NGO, the victim girl filed the complaint narrating her two-year ordeal with the boy, who not only exploited her, but defamed her on social media.
Police sources informed that considering the gravity of the cyber crime, Canacona PI Rajendra Prabhudessai is himself investigating the episode.
