A fire broke out on the ground floor of a popular furniture store “ Casa Marques “ along the main road in Canca near Mapusa on Saturday morning.
A fire officer with the Mapusa fire station informed that two fire tenders each from Mapusa and Pilerne were pressed into service to douse the fire.
He said most of the furniture goods such as beds, mattresses, sofa sets etc were gutted in the fire.
The Mapusa fire station got a call at around 8.12 am and a fire tender rushed to the site and began the firefighting operations. It took around one-and-half hour to douse the flames.
The fire officer said the exact reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained, but it appears to be a short circuit.
He said the approximate loss is estimated to bearound Rs 10 lakh.
The fire personnel managed to stop the fire from spreading to the top two floors and the adjacent shops.
The firefighting operation was led by Mapuas fire station incharge Bosco Ferrao. Further inquiry is on.
