CANACONA
It was a hectic Tuesday for Ganesh idol artisans and residents in Canaona, as final preparations were being made to welcome Ganesh in homes and at public places which will have the Sarvajanik Ganesh celebrations.
Ganesh idol artisans were busy giving final touches to dozens of Ganesh idols, while Chaudi town was abuzz with activity as people were busy making last-minute purchases on the eve of the festivities.
Such was the rush that there was hardly any space for vehicles to move, making it difficult for police to regulate traffic.
At the different Ganesh idol workshops in Canacona, artisans had readied the idols and were giving final touches, with some customers visiting the workshops to inspect their orders.
All Ganesh idols will be collected on Wednesday, ahead of the installation ceremony.
“Some Sarvajanik mandals have ordered only the Ganesh idol, which will be installed on Wednesday. However, installation work at a few other mandals was started almost a fortnight ago, to set up the scene with different figures,” informed an artist at Canacona.
Incidentally, two of the main Ganesh workshops are located in Char-Rasta and they account for a combined 500-odd idols which have been ordered by houses and a number of Sarvajanik mandals.
