Family and friends will stage a candlelit procession in memory of late Januz Gonsalves at the Aldona Tercena on October 3 from 6.30 pm onwards in a bid to show love and respect to the bereaved family for the tragic events which denied them a proper funeral service and burial that late Januz deserved.
In a message circulated on social network groups, the friends said: “We had promised Januz a farewell celebration on September 29, but were unable to do so due to the criminal negligence on the part of the GMC in disposing off his last remains.”
“We, as a society as a whole have failed Januz and his bereaved family and owe them love and respect which we will try and convey during this candlelit procession.”
Stating that Januz was a young man at peace with himself, the message added that he was contemplative and silent.
“It is therefore fitting that the candlelit procession will be a silent and contemplative one. There will be no violence of action or thought. Everyone who cares is invited to attend and requested to attend.”
“All politicians and political people are invited to participate but there will be no speeches neither political or critical of anyone. There will be other occasions for that,” the message stated.
Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo has also been welcome along with Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, GMC Dean Dr Pradeep Naik and others involved to pay their respects.
“They can be assured that they will be treated well,” said the message.
The procession is expected to start from Januz’s family home in Goncoi-Aldona and follow his favourite path through the fields past Columba Residency behind St Thomas Girls School. Others can join at various points and congregate at the Tercena.
Those participating in the candlelit procession have been requested to carry their own candles and lights, to carry their own umbrellas and park their vehicles at a distance .
The message states that there will be no parking at the Tercena and people of Aldona have been encouraged to come walking to the venue, if possible.
“After the procession, anyone who wants to sing any of Januz’s favourite music or their own music, read poems (no speeches please) is welcome to do so,” the message adds.
