Amid a surge in dengue cases in Mormugao, the health minister on Wednesday said the capacity at Chicalim Sub-district Hospital cannot be enhanced beyond a point but assured to take stock of the shortage of beds reported at the hospital due on account of the dengue cases.
"We have directed the Chicalim hospital and other health centres to take up preventive measures on dengue-like fogging with local bodies.”
“We cannot exceed the capacity of the hospital beyond a point but we will see how we can manage the situation and I will review the measures in place," he said.
The minister was speaking to reporters after felicitating health workers of the Cortalim PHC in the presence of Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, Director of Health Services Dr Jose De Sa, Quelossim Church Parish Priest Fr Godinho, Cortalim PHC Health Officer Dr Soccoro Quadros, State Immunisation officer Dr Rajendra Borkar and other officials.
The minister also informed that health infrastructure was being enhanced in the State.
"We need a state-of-art Covid Hospital for South Goa and we don't want to be unprepared for the third wave of Covid. In the meantime, we are also working on the available infrastructure.”
“Work on the new cancer hospital in Bambolim will commence soon. We have already received another Rs 15 crore from the Centre and we want that the project to be completed soon."
The health minister said efforts were underway to get health workers regularised in the department.
"We have already advertised for posts in the health department and health workers on contract will not remain on contract as they will apply for the regular posts. We must make sure that we give priority and preferences to these health workers," he said.
