The Cansaulim Panchayat led by Sarpanch Jose Marie Furtado wasted no time in the New Year and issued work orders worth Rs 35 lakh to contractors for various development works.
"This is the first day of the New Year and we felt that this should be a new beginning and we have issued work orders worth Rs 35 lakh to different contractors. These development works include new roads, drainage,” said Furtado.
“We have a few more development works worth around Rs 45 lakh which will be issued to contractors in a few months," said Furtado.
Furtado said though he took charge as Sarpanch around four months ago, development works had slowed down because of the Covid pandemic but assured that the new year would witness a lot of development in Cansualim village.
Furtado also appealed to Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha to pursue the inauguration of the newly built Cansaulim Primary Health Centre (PHC).
"Many people have been awaiting the inauguration of the Cansaulim PHC because it caters to people from Colva to Zuarinagar. At present, we have to rush patients to Margao or GMC in cases of emergency.”
“Work on the Cansaulim PHC has been taken up since the last seven years. Saldanha must explain why it is not yet inaugurated and why an overbridge at Cansaulim is not taken up despite assurances by former MLA late Matanhy Saldanha and an inspection by former CM late Manohar Parrikar. We appeal to her to inaugurate the project for the benefit of people." said Furtado.
"Similarly, when Saldanha was elected the first time, she had taken up the Cuelim bypass in an area where there are around 200 farmers. But since then, the fields are flooded every year and their hard work goes in vain.”
“We had explained to Saldanha that pipe culverts have been buried and has caused the floods. The pipe culvert has to be changed to a box culvert but till date, there have been no efforts from her side and we request her to take up these works because it will benefit farmers in a big way," Furtado added.
