The recent dramatic escape and recapture of undertrial Vivek Kumar Gautam has again raised serious questions about the access and uncontrolled use of mobile and other prohibited items by jail inmates lodged in the Colvale jail.
A recent report submitted by Superintendent of Police (Crime) Shobit Saxena highlighted loopholes in security measures which led to prohibited items finding an easy access inside the jail.
Despite the findings of Saxena committee report, the authorities have not yet rectified the system.
The loopholes in the jail security system got exposed when investigating officials of the Crime Branch found out that the undertrial Vivek Gautam had hatched a plan to escape from the hospital through mobile conversations with his two accomplices who were outside the jail.
Saxena in his report submitted to the Home Department had also exposed illegalities, irregularities and corruption in the Colvale jail.
SP Saxena committee was appointed to find out faults in the jail administration by the Home ministry after a controversial video of historysheeter Tiger Arman enjoying in jail went viral.
After a month-long investigation, Saxena submitted a detailed report to the home department. But concerned authorities are yet to take any action and rectify the serious lacunae in the functioning of Colvale jail.
