A foreign tourist had a lucky escape when the car she was driving rammed into the protection wall of accident-prone Dumane culvert-bridge along the Agonda-Khola road.
According to sources, the car narrowly avoided falling off the bridge and into the stream.
The culvert-bridge is precariously located, as motorists have to immediately negotiate a sharp turn on approaching the narrow culvert-bridge to avoid going off the bridge.
When the old iron railings got damaged after becoming rusted, the PWD had erected concrete sidewalls in their place as a protection on both sides of the narrow bridge and constructed humps on either side to cut the speed of vehicles before approaching the bridge.
Former Agonda sarpanch and social worker Pramod Falderssai has appealed to the government to pay immediate attention to the Dumane bridge, as the damaged protection wall could invite more trouble for motorists.
“The PWD should immediately repair the destroyed side-protection wall, or at least temporarily erect some bamboo structure to warn of the impending danger to motorists as a stopgap arrangement. It should be done mostly immediately before any motorist goes over the bridge,” said Faldessai.
