Car driver booked in hit & run case in Mapusa

A car driver from Orda-Candolim has been booked in a hit-and-run incident, after two senior citizens were injured in a mishap at Dattawadi-Mapusa.

According to Mapusa police, the incident took place in front of Tata Consultancy Services at Dattawadi on January 31 at about 12 noon when two Henry Michael Fernandes (70) and Filomena Fernandes (72) were on a scooter travelling from Mapusa Ganeshpuri via Marna Siolim.

An oncoming car driven by Mantesh Shrikant Bansagal of Orda-Candolim struck the scooter, injuring both riders. The car driver did not wait to offer help to the injured elderly citizens, and did not inform the police about the accident, but fled from the site.

The police have registered a case against Bansagal and Police Hawaldar Ulhas Gaonkar is investigating the matter.
