Two women scooter riders sustained injuries at Benaulim on early Friday morning when a rent a car rammed into them near the Holy Trinity Church.
The accident occurred just moments after the two women had dropped their children for school before the rent a car driven by Delhi-based native Amit Kumar Yadav dashed against them, causing injuries.
Both the riders of Jupiter scooter Carmelina Gracias (33) and Celicia Rodrigues (43), the rider of Access scooter, were rushed to the Hospicio hospital. Colva police informed that Carmelina Gracias, who sustained injuries on her face and body, has since been shifted to the GMC, Bambolim. Celicia is convalescing at the Hospicio with a fractured leg.
Colva police informed that the two injured women from Benaulim had just dropped their kids for school and were along the roadside when the rent-a-car lost balance near the speed breaker and rammed against the Jupiter scooter driven by Carmelina. The car later dashed against the second scooter causing injuries to the two riders.
Colva police further informed that the rent a car driver, Amit Kumar Yadav, a native of Delhi had come down to attend a conference in Goa. “The delegates for the conference were putting up at different hotels and Amit and his two friends were staying at Ramada, Varca. At around 6.30 am, Amit along with another occupant left the hotel to drop their friend to Panaji and the accident occurred when they were returning back,” the police said.
With the locals demanding that the car driver be subjected to alcohol and other tests, since the second occupant was found sleeping, the police sent the duo for medical examination, but the report on the consumption of alcohol has come negative. Police pointed out that interrogation of car driver revealed that he had hit the accelerator instead of applying the break just before the speed breaker, losing control over the vehicle.
